When Matty Burton suffers a severe head trauma in what is to be his last fight, his world is turned upside down. He faces a gruelling journey on the road to recovery.

Another film that I caught by chance because of it's very small release. It's such a shame that it hasn't been given more attention because it certainly deserves it. I was knocked for six watching this one and even though the trailer suggests it will be emotional, nothing could have prepared me for the amount of tears in the cinema screen. It is not a film that focuses on boxing but the damage that boxing can do. For the genre this is unusual - normally focusing on a rags-to-riches hero or a monumental comeback, this film instead looks at the aftermath of a brain injury.

Human and heartbreaking, completely due to Paddy Considine's performance as Matty Burton - a man who has it all: a loving family, a nice home, a championship belt in boxing and a great team of friends. After the injury follow his journey to recovery and the ups and downs he encounters. Co-star Jodie Whittaker (the new Dr. Who!) similarly adds to this powerhouse acting and you definitely go on the journey with her. As his wife she supports his rehabilitation as much as she can, even through the harder times. The most killer scene that really demonstrated the ability of Considine's acting was as phone call to wife Emma, it is simply shot, with a close up on him talking to her. As he struggles and muddles his way through the conversation, his voice cracks and tears begin to fall. This scene is simple but powerful.

One final thing that was done very well was the way that it was shot. Colours took on a slightly different tone and seemed brighter or darker depending on the tone of the film (maybe just me?) It was often simple but powerful and always looked very slick.

While the film does wrap up a little too easily at the end, it is the result that the audience wanted and is touching to see how far the man goes to get where he wants. If you see this film - don't forget the tissues because it will get you sooner or later.
